Mindset is a choice. Each day, we choose our outlook, our way of thinking, our attitude and opinions. Our interactions with others are 100% influenced by our mindset.
My default setting is positive and optimistic, but I'm just as susceptible to negative thinking as anyone else. I've spent decades learning to reframe my thoughts and challenge my own perceptions. My positive attitude doesn't happen by accident -- I make a conscious effort to choose my mindset daily.
If you feel negative, pessimistic or disengaged, how can you shift your mindset?
Acknowledge the thoughts that are fueling your emotions
Challenge the negative thoughts and ask 'how do I know this is true'
Release the bad juju and change your energy
Flip the script: what is an alternative thought, what else could be true
Be intentional about who you associate with and the conversations you have
Whenever I've faced adversity in my life, I've chosen to be fearless. This is an example of mindset. I'm not a super-duper risk taker, but I have chosen to believe there are no wrong choices in life. Every path leads to unexpected places with new characters and adventures in my story! Could it all go wrong? Yes, that is a possibility, but I will learn from these experiences and adapt. When nothing is certain, anything is possible.✨
This is the power of a deliberate mindset. Reframing the negative into a positive unshackles us from fear and anxiety, allowing for new opportunities to emerge.
If you'd like to explore shifting your mindset, I would love to be your thought partner. As a leadership coach, I am trained to ask provocative questions that will open your mind to new ways of thinking. This process is rooted in neuroscience and you are always in control of the agenda.
A NOTE ABOUT COACHING
Leadership coaching should not be confused with mental health treatment or psychotherapy. Coaching and psychotherapy are both forms of professional support that aim to help individuals improve their lives, but they differ in their approach and goals.
Coaching focuses on the present and future, and helps individuals identify and achieve specific goals, such as career advancement, improved relationships, or overcoming specific obstacles. Coaches provide support, guidance and accountability to help clients develop strategies for success.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a more in-depth form of mental health treatment that focuses on past experiences and current emotional and behavioral issues. Psychotherapy aims to help individuals understand and overcome psychological challenges such as anxiety, depression and trauma, and to improve their overall mental health and well-being.
